Magyar Agar Exercise Guide
Back to Magyar Agar OverviewThe Magyar Agar has significant exercise requirements. Plan for around 90 minutes of running, fetch, agility, or off-lead trail walking every day to keep your Magyar Agar physically healthy and mentally settled. While not the most trainable breed, regular exercise is still essential for Magyar Agars to maintain a healthy weight and a stable temperament. Although they can adapt to apartment living, Magyar Agar owners without a garden should plan to provide around 90 minutes of outdoor exercise daily without fail.

Exercise by Life Stage
Limit to 5 minutes of structured exercise per month of age, twice daily (e.g. a 3-month-old Magyar Agar should have two 15-minute sessions). Avoid repetitive impact activities until growth plates close.
Growth plates in large breeds close later — jumping, stairs, and long runs should be avoided until 12–18 months to prevent joint damage.
Adult Magyar Agars require Around 90 minutes of exercise per day. Running, Fetch, Agility training are all suitable. Consistency is key — irregular exercise followed by long sessions increases injury risk.
Avoid exercise in high heat; Magyar Agars with short muzzles or heavy coats are particularly susceptible to heatstroke. Always carry water.
Senior Magyar Agars still need daily exercise but at a reduced intensity. Shorter, more frequent walks are preferable to fewer long sessions. Swimming is an excellent low-impact option for older dogs.
Watch for signs of stiffness, reluctance to exercise, or difficulty rising — these may indicate arthritis or other age-related conditions. Consult your vet if you notice changes in mobility.
Living Environment & Exercise
Apartment Suitable
The Magyar Agar can adapt to apartment living, provided their daily exercise requirement of Around 90 minutes is consistently met. Without access to a garden, owners must plan outdoor sessions around the Magyar Agar's energy levels. Nearby parks or green space are strongly recommended.
Magyar Agars are generally good with other dogs — off-lead exercise with other well-socialised dogs can be a valuable part of their daily activity. Dog parks and group walks work well for this breed.
